The Idaho LWC's first featured athlete is Shay Carlock of Heart and Barbell Club of Coeur d'Alene, ID. Shay will turn just 17 years old on March 7th and has just been named to the 2017 Youth World Team. She will compete in Bangkok, Thailand on April 4-11th at the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Youth World Championships.
Shay's hometown is Rathdrum, ID and she started Olympic Weightlifting through Crossfit at Crossfit Coeur d"Alene. She has been weightlifting for almost two years, with five years of Crossfit experience. Her favorite lift to train is the snatch because she feels like that lift is where she has more things to work on. She likes listening country music during her training sessions and aspires to be a firefighter/paramedic after she finishes high school.
Shay placed 8th at the 2016 American Open as both the lightest and the youngest competitor in the +90kg weight class. She has 12 National medals to her credit and hold all 90kg and +90kg state records in all three divisions (Youth, Junior, and Open). She is fresh off her 1 Silver and 2 Bronze Medal performance at the 2017 National Junior Championships, February 26th in Kansas City.
The Idaho LWC is proud of Shay and all she brings to the sport of Olympic Weightlifting in Idaho.
