The Idaho LWC's next featured athlete is Catie Bristow out of Fireside Barbell Club in Meridian, ID. Catie holds all Idaho state records in the 53kg class and placed 18th in the 2016 Under 25 Championships in New Orleans. Catie is also the 2016 53kg Idaho State Champion in addition to taking 1st place and Best Overall Lifter accolades at the 2016 and 2017 Boise Barbell Open. Catie had an impressive performance on June 10th in Boise where she hit her biggest competition numbers to date going 64/79/143.
Catie was born and raised in South Africa until the age of 10. After many patient years, she celebrated becoming a naturalized US Citizen in August 2016. Catie is also co-owner of CrossFit Fireside, which is also the home of Fireside Barbell Club. Catie is most passionate about using fitness and health to help people discover their limitless potential.
Catie was introduced to weightlifting through Crossfit and has been participating in the sport for about 12 months. Prior to starting Crossfit in 2012, Catie has been a lifelong athlete playing both lacrosse and soccer. Outside of weightlifting, Catie enjoys all summer and winter outdoor activities and spending time with family, friends, and her two fur babies LJ and Bella.
Catie's favorite lift to train is the snatch due to its speed and dynamic movement. The Clean and Jerk has recently become her favorite competition lift. "I have always loved cleans, but have had a serious deficiency in my jerks. As of October, we made jerks a focus in my training. Each meet I feel like I have both physical and mental break throughs with this lift, making it so fun and rewarding."
The Idaho LWC is so proud of all that Catie has accomplished and looks forward to all of the amazing things she will bring to the sport of weightlifting in Idaho. She is an excellent example for young lifters and an all-around great human being.
